Question by Hennessy: What’s the difference between “you have been reported…” emails and “violation notice” emails?
Today I answered a question the only thing I did wrong was use the f-bomb…besides that it was a legitiment answer. Anyway someone obviously didn’t think their question was good cause it got reported and deleted. So I check my email an hour ago and I got a (as the title to the email) “you have been reported by the yahoo community” because of that answer…any other time i’ve been reported I got a “violation notice” email. My question is, what’s the difference?

We believe that the “You have been reported . . .” is sent automatically by the Community Moderation system after sufficient reporting by other users.

The “Violation Notice” emails are felt to come from STAFF, either due to them finding the violation, or after enough reports called for staff review — and then they filed the notice themselves.

Either one can be successfully appealed (I know; I’ve done it), but it may be a bit harder with the 2nd one, since they’ve supposedly already reviewed it once.
