Q&A: Should have I been given a Yahoo Answers “Violation Notice” for this answer?
Question by Questiona: Should have I been given a Yahoo Answers “Violation Notice” for this answer?
Question: What does it mean to be an american?
Question Details: in a more modern term, not colonial times.
Deleted Answer: That is a loaded question. LOL Can’t wait to see the answers you get for this one.
Violation Reason: Community Guidelines and/or Terms Of Service Violation
I answered the question, I did not ask it.
Hope I’m making this clear, after reading a few answers to my question here, I felt maybe I wasn’t.
But what happened was, I answered a question, that question being the “What does it mean to be an american …” question, and I recieved a violation noticed for the answer I gave.
Again, the original “What does it mean to be an american?, is NOT my question at all.

I don’t see any reason why it would be a violation……. but I can’t wait to see the answers you get.
Give your answer to this question below!
The reason you were not given a notice was because it was reported and deleted by the person who asked the question. You do not receive a violation notice in that case.

LikeDislikeYour answer was probably reported as a non answer::::::::::You did not answer the question asked but posted a chat comment.

LikeDislikeObviously someone took the hump about your answer because you have not answered the question properly. The asker wanted to know something and your reply was about waiting to see other answers and no mention of an answer to the question.
I appreciate what you meant by the answer but there are users on here that report answers like that, personally I just pass them by even though I know that they are breaking the guidelines, I am not a reporting person. (well unless it is spam answers then I report them).
If you want to make a comment like the deleted answer, then at least try to answer the question first and then add your comment, although again you have to take care that someone does not think you are chatting, swings and roundabouts!

LikeDislikewell technically, you didn’t answer the question with any useful information. In others words answering just to answer. So I would say it COULD be considered point gaming, just like those people who say in answer to a question… IDK
I got one yesterday, here is the pasted copy. Mind you, this was being asked in Y answers category
Question: can anyone answer this question i need 10 people to answer it pls!!?
Question Details: If you had a chance to improve the iPhone, how would you do it? pls i need 10 people to fill it out

LikeDislikeYahoo Answers is a postmodern organization meaning that its organization is not like a pyramid. There is no visible head. Think of WalMart. Have you ever tried to locate a manager? Well, I think that it’s sad that you have to ask us, the less informed than you, a question like this. When you receive a violation, they should give you one of a number of standard violation reasons. And, if you disagree and think it doesn’t fit, then you should be able to appeal it. But, it has no head of complaints so you can’t do this.

LikeDislikePersonally I see no violation,Possibly trolls reported it. you should appeal it.

LikeDislikeYour “answer” was not an answer — and therein lies the violation. Here is a link to the pertinent BLOG explaining about it to read:
http://yanswersblog.com/index.php/archives/2009/09/14/five-golden-rules-for-answering-questions/
and a quote from that blog that is to the point:
“Remember that you are answering to help the asker: Don’t answer just for the sake of getting points, or to advertise your own questions to the community. If you don’t know the answer, skip to a question that you’re more knowledgeable about.”

LikeDislikeSorry but what you posted was NOT an answer to the question. You failed to supply the knowledge that was requested. Instead you commented. Violation for point gaming
Was this answer helpful?
LikeDislikeBecause you didn’t answer the question. You just made statement.
