Q&A: How much advance notice is a landlord required to give you to spray for bugs?
Question by 3bluebirds: How much advance notice is a landlord required to give you to spray for bugs?
I just got home at 930 pm and have to leave for work at 630 tomorrow morning. I came home to an “advance notice” that my landlord is spraying for bugs tomorrow. There is no way I can clean my whole house and remove all contents from bathroom and kitchen cabinets tonight to be prepared. I looked at the Texas law and it only says the landlord must give “advanced notice.” Does anyone know how “advanced notice” is defined under Texas Law?

i lived in texas apartments for many years. We always got the same notice you got. Do the best you can.

The day before is the most that is required. You do not have to clean or or remove anything. The exterminators do not care what your place looks like. They use a localized spray, so you do not have to remove everything like those fog things.
This is not really that big of a deal.

LikeDislikeAdvanced notice is not defined. One day is sufficient. The most you can do is complain to the property manager and the owner. Maybe they will see that it causes a hardship and give you an additional days notice. It doesnt seem like an unreasonable request.
If you complain and they retaliate by raising your rent or denying you any service previously afforded you, that is illegal. Keep all correspondence should you ever need it.
