Q&A: Has anyone ever gotten a “Violation Notice” from Yahoo! Answers? Did they list a reason for the violation?
Question by Phineas Bogg: Has anyone ever gotten a “Violation Notice” from Yahoo! Answers? Did they list a reason for the violation?
So far I have gotten two violation notices for questions that I have posted and neither contained any details about why the questions were violations. I was just curious if my experience is typical.
Thanks for your replies!

You should ask : “Has anyone NOT gotten a violation notice from yahoo answers?” And if the answer is yes, then THAT should surprise you.

Your situation is not atypical. Violation reasons are usually pretty obvious if you read the TOS and guidelines, but if you have questions, post the EXACT context of the Q or A here (include any references or details you put) and the users here can help you determine the problem.

LikeDislikeYes, and no.
They seem to just take people’s word for it when they flag, end of story.

LikeDislikeHi Phineas Bogg,
I have received a total of 8 bogus violations this week. All for the same reason. I believe it was a troll(s) that reported me. I guess jealously is something they can’t handle too well.
Remember that you can appeal the removal of your questions/answers by using the link provided in the Violation Notice Yahoo! sent you.
Good Luck

LikeDislikeWELCOME TO THE CLUB….i was once a fixture on this site. i enjoyed helping people and learning. i can remember spending hours on YA… now if iam on here 3-4 times a year it’s a lot. i had and kept a” top contributor” badge…the yahoo morons in never never land managed to tick me off so bad (like thousands of other GOOD faithful users) that i dont even care anymore. you will get violated for any vast number moronic reasons and you will never have a answer or any recourse to fight it. this board has gone downhill 90% since it started. the violations appeal board is a joke and will do nothing except send you a canned spam letter promising to look into the violation…thats the last you will hear of it… my favorite time was when i answered a question from a 14yr old girl who was having problems in school from a group of skinheads.. my answer was targeted by some pig who called me every unflattering name that could be post. i replied asking him if his mother had any children that lived….guess what ? i got violated and his post stayed, even after i complained to yahoo. i have heard horror stories about people (including a doctor) getting their entire accounts deleated (including their e-mail) for me this board is supposed to be about helping people, learning and having fun, not a bunch of hassles.

LikeDislikeI’ve gotton approximately 10. I stopped counting a while back. Some of them I can’t argue with. For example, once I told someone, “u nid 2 lern 2 spel”. Someone reported it. But there are others where I felt it was unjustified.
The only encouraging experience is that once (recently) I sent back a very strong email in respsonse to the violation notice. I stated that some troll is reporting me for no good reason and that you (they) were sitting on their @$ $ e$ doing nothing about. I also said, “If you’re going to give me a programmed response like ‘report it on the forum’, at least give me a referernce number, because the content was deleted, what could I refer to.”
Well 2 days later, a human actually emailed me saying that they reviewed my case, and still found hte content to be in violation. With the state of Y!A these days, I have to consider that a small victory. I actually got Mr. Yahoo himself to get off his ash and investigate my case.

LikeDislikeYes, I got somewhere near 15 violation notices.
Most of them I did deserve, but I didn’t feel they should be deleted. They’re taking all my fun away! This is a very big issue to spending your life on Yahoo! Answers, it’s easy to get angry when someone reports you for something you deserve.
Once I was reported for something I definitely did not deserve and I felt very happy for that. They said sorry and posted my answer back. Wow, I typed this entire matrix inversion work and some damn troll reports it.
