Question by Anonymous: I’m going CRAZY. In your opinion, did I get the job?
I’m driving myself nuts. Tom Petty is right – the waiting IS the hardest part.

Here are the facts:
- The company approached me three times regarding the position before I became interested.
- Interview 1: Phone interview with internal recruiter.
- Interview 2: Phone interview with hiring manager one week later.
- Interview 3: They flew me out to Chicago for a 90 minute interview with hiring manager.
- Interviews 4 – 9: Flew from Chicago to Indianapolis to meet not only peers, but potential direct reports. They took me on a tour, took me out for lunch, etc.
- Interview 10: After two weeks (one holiday week), had a phone interview positioned as “the final interview” with a VP that is a stakeholder, but not in my reporting line.

ALL interviews went extremely well. However, I expected an offer after interview #9 – and it’s been two weeks since #10. I sent an email to HR to ask the status and they said “Sorry for the delay – a decision will be made this week. Do not view this delay to mean anything more than that.”

The interviews couldn’t have gone better. Even during the final interview, there were small slips when the interviewer said “when you get here you’ll notice”, etc.

I’m thinking that since I haven’t actually had any conversations with the hiring manager since Interview #3, the rest were more “sign off” types of interviews. The #10 interview puzzles me a bit – it was the “final interview” but he’s not in my reporting line. I know I wouldn’t send more than one candidate to an interview #10 like this without being involved myself – it seems like the hiring manager would lose a bit of control of the decision if there were still multiple candidates.

I’m going insane over the anxiety. Does anyone have a perspective on this? Don’t worry, I won’t hold you to it…

Thanks!
