I’m 7 months into a one year lease and I recently found out i was pregnant. I’ve had complications with my pregnancy that made me have to go on bed rest and didn’t allow me to work for almost a month. My fiance and I were barely making ends meet as it was, and now its become impossible. we’ve decided to move in with my mom and don’t know how or even if we can break the lease. This month will be the last month we can pay the rent, and I’ve spoken to the manager about this and she said she won’t tell them but just give them the 30 day notice and hope they dont notice..? i dont know what will happen if they do “notice”. can anyone offer me some legal advice?
I’m not even sure, the manager refferred to “they” being the office that owns the apartment complex. She also never gave me a copy of the lease so I don’t know exactly what rights I have..

whom is the “they” the manager is taking about? If you are to be evicted for non payment, the
landlord/manager does this.
You can remediate your situation by seeking on your own, a replacement tenant. If interested,

In most states you are responsible for the full duration of your lease or until a new tenant is found. Your legal rights are to pay what you agreed to pay…or pay the penalty to break your lease.

LikeDislikeYou have a right to have a copy of the lease, by law they have to provide a copy (in CA that is the law) Were you able to get maternity leave from your job? Anyways, I am sure the owners of the apt will know you moved when your rent isnt in next month, unless the manager is able to immediately re rent the apartment, which i doubt will happen. You cannot get out of a lease early because you are pregnant or had complications of pregnancy. Sorry.
