Pretend this is a relationship kind of thing, or in the movies for instance, when a girl hits her partners arm when he says “A girl cant play sports” (an example!!!), but when you hear “He hit her” it sounds so bad.

LikeDislikeGuys don’t really hit their girlfriends playfully the way a girl might hit her boyfriend, so really it’s an understandable (though not necessarily fair) assumption that if a guy hits a girl it’s an abusive thing. It’s not that people think it’s okay for a girl to violently hit a guy, it’s just that two completely different scenarios come to mind with those two sentences.

LikeDislikeI think they sound equally bad but as we live in a conservative, parochial society where the justice system is based on the Westminster system of law, it is actually against the law to assault a person, which hitting is, and more men end up in court for hitting women than the other way round.
Women are generally accepted as the more submissive and subservient of the two sexes, so naturally, being hit by men is not on. That is why the idea of men doing the hitting is more abhorrent than women doing it.
